Willie Jamison Obituary

Willie “Willis” Jamison, the son of the late William “Bill" Jamison and Rev. Leona MaloneyJamison Webb, was born on August 10, 1939, in Colleton County. He entered into eternal rest on September 2, 2025 in Cortlandt Manor, NY, following an unexpected medical event.

The son of a sharecropper, Willis was raised in Islandton, South Carolina, and attended Colleton County schools. As a young boy he suffered a leg injury, but he never let that keep him down. As a child he plowed the fields with mules and by the age of 23, he left the south and ventured up to New York for better opportunities. On September 13, 1973 he was united in holy matrimony to Shirley Steward, and together they raised two children.

Willie worked an array of jobs as an adult which included: steel plant worker, fork lift operator, and a hat milliner.  Out of all his jobs the one Willis loved most was his job as “Pappy-cab” to his Granddaughter, Kayla and his nieces, Tiffany and Jazmyn. He was the nurturing, devoted and fun old-timer who was affectionately  referred to as “Pappy” by the kids. Willis was well known and loved by all in his community. Considered a neighborhood “OG”, he always had a story or joke to tell and loved to share his many life experiences with the younger generations. A fixture on the corner, sitting in his car with his cup or at the casino with his wife, playing the slots. Willis loved to have a good time with family and friends.

Along with his parents, Willis Jamison waspreceded in death by his granddaughter Kayla Laurén Emily Holder, his great-grandson, Kainoa Anthony Rashad Ramsey. Five sisters, Catherine Daniels, Louise Joyner, Margie Lingard, Pearl Broughton and Joyce Cook; and six brothers, Lewis Jamison, Haskell Jamison, Linard Jamison, Jasper Jamison, Clarence Jamison, and Edward Jamison.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of almost 52 years, Shirley.  His daughter and son, Michelle Chamberlain-Bristow (Keith) of Putnam Valley, New York and Willie Jamison Jr. (Nicole) of Queens Village, New York; Five grandchildren, Tyrese Jamison, Ebony Soto, Demetrio Jamison, Keith Bristow Jr. and Kyle Bristow; One great-grandchild, Milani’Rae Langston; Three sisters, Janie Edwards, Audrey Delaney and Regina Sanders ; Two brothers, Hubert Webb (Blondell) and Earl Webb , all of South Carolina; Two sisters-in-law, Shantell Steward of South Carolina, Jeanette Steward of New York; Three brothers-in-law, Gerald Lingard, Vernon Steward and Michael Steward, all of South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
