William Devant Campbell, son of the late Deacon Richard Campbell and Deaconess Cleo Elizabeth Williams Campbell was born on September 3, 1955, in Walterboro, South Carolina. He departed his earthly life to his eternal resting place on Wednesday July 23, 2025.
William was educated in the public schools of Colleton County. He graduated from the Walterboro High School Class of 1973. Upon graduation he continued to Morris College earning his bachelor’s degree in 1979. After graduating, he entered the work force and began his tenure with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office. He was most recently employed with the Lieber Department of Corrections in Ridgeville, South Carolina as a Corrections Officer. He retired from Lieber in July of 2009. William was devoted to empowering and educating the younger generation. He became a behavioral coach at Fort Dorchester High School, later transferring to Ashley Ridge High School.
William was an active Mason with Douglas Lodge #277 and found peace and community in brotherhood. He was a true family man. He enjoyed being around his family and traveling to ball games.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his life’s memories are; siblings Kenneth (Cynthia) Campbell of Savannah, GA, Karen (Cleveland) Mitchell of Rowesville, SC, Edwin Darryl (Angelia) Campbell of Cottageville, SC; one uncle; Bartholomew Williams of Winter Park, FL, two aunts, Rebecca Duncan of Beachwood, Ohio, and Vivian McFadden of Ruffin, SC, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
