Wallie “Walter” Myers Junior, son of the late Wallie Myers Senior and the late Rena Smith, was born on July 29, 1936 in Colleton County, Green Pond, SC., departed this life to join his heavenly Father on Monday, February 12, 2024.
He attended public school is Green Pond until he went to work for the produce company, J S Weeks & Co in Charleston, SC where he met his loving wife, the late Helen Bligen Myers. They were joined in holy matrimony on September 9, 1955, and were together for 25 years, and from this union, four children were born. In November 1957, he, his wife and their first-born daughter migrated to Philadelphia, PA where he went to work for the Philadelphia Housing Authority. His name was changed from Wallie to Walter during that time. Walter and Helen’s family was growing, so Walter studied very hard to become a Building Engineer for the School District of Philadelphia.
Walter became a member of Olive Branch Lodge #8 Prince Hall Grand Chapter of Philadelphia on May 8, 1987. He later joined the Douglas Lodge # 277 @ Walterboro South Carolina. Walter decided to retire from the school board, after 30 years of faithful service, and he returned home to his beloved Green Pond, SC in 2005.
Walter was preceded in death by his son, Walter “Derryle” Myers, his sister, Mildred Adamson, and his brother, Joseph Myers.
Walter leaves to cherish his memory: four daughters, Annette Murray (James), Rosalyn Nesmith (Lenell), Vanessa Myers, Pamela Landers (Randy): his sisters, Daisy Robertson, and Viola Williams, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins and friends, as well as his two care givers.
