Susan Horlback Obituary

Mrs. Susan Lasha Holmes‑Horlback, affectionately known as “Susie Q” and “Chapstick,” was born on January 5, 1980, to the late Abraham Mitchell and the late Alma Magwood Holmes. She peacefully entered eternal rest on February 5, 2026, at Roper Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.

Susan was educated in the Colleton County public school system and a member of Walterboro High School Class of 1998. She later relocated to Charleston, South Carolina, where she worked in various jobs showing special interest in Hotel Customer Service.

A gifted and avid writer, Susan found joy in creating poems and short stories. She was outgoing, loving, and full of life—never meeting a stranger and always leaving a lasting impression wherever she went. To know her was truly to love her. She lived life to the fullest, cherishing time with her extended family and true friends. Her greatest joy and strength came from her beautiful children, Micha and Ma’Chele, whom she loved beyond measure.

Susan accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Throughout her life, she attended many churches and later joined Spirit and Truth Church in Charleston, South Carolina, under the divine leadership of Pastor Fred Wilkins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Haynes; sister, Verlene Daniels; daughter, Su’Miya Horlback; son she loved as her own, Micheal Horlback, Jr.; and a special nephew, Kendrick “Mr. T” Daniels.

She is survived by Micheal Horlbeck, Sr. of Charleston, SC; those left to reflect on her precious memories are her loving children, Micha Horlback of Charleston, SC and Ma’Chele Horlback of Walterboro, SC; Children she loved as her own Crystal and Shavoyia Davis of Charleston, SC, and MaKeala Horlback of Ladson, SC; Daughter-in love Zania Ziegler  of Charleston, SC and eleven grandchildren, all of Charleston, SC.

She also leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Charles Mitchell (Lillie Mae) of Walterboro, SC and God‑Sister, Phylicia Porshae Thomas of Walterboro, SC.

Special family bonded by love include Sadie Salley of Walterboro, SC, whom she lovingly called “Grandma”; aunts Revonica Daniels of Walterboro, SC, and Linda Jackson‑Jenkins of Snellville GA; her devoted aunt and caregiver, Candace “Nurse Merritt” Merritt; “Big Sister” Samantha Salley‑Washington (Jake) of Walterboro, SC; “Big Brother” Craig “Boogie” Pinckney of Walterboro, SC; and “Little Brother,” who was more like a son, Travis Long of Charleston, SC. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever hold her memory close.
