Mrs. Sophia G. Williams was born July 18, 1961, in New York, NY, to the late Marion and Ella Mae Givens, Sr. She was educated in the public-school systems of New York. She later attended high school in Savannah, Georgia and then graduated from Walterboro High School.
She then attended College and graduated from the Technical College of the Lowcountry with a degree in Medical Assistance. She worked several jobs. Her longest employment was with Parker Racor for 25 years. Once Parker closed, she began her career with the Colleton County School District as a School Nutrition Specialist where she was employed until being called from labor to reward.
In 1984 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Yancy Williams, and to this union one daughter was born.
Sophia was a Youth Leader and used her calling to help the youth at New Bethel #5 Holiness Church with their Youth Ministry. She also worked on the Usher Board and as the Pastor’s Aide. She loved her kids at the church and always got excited to have a pizza and movie night.
Left to cherish her beautiful memories her daughter, Jalecia Williams (Yemassee); grandson, Derrick Oliver (Beaufort); two brothers, Sinclair (Patricia) Givens (Covington, Ga), and Marion Givens, Jr. AKA HB (Walterboro); one sister, Earlise (Wilbur) Jamison (Islandton); uncle, Franklin Givens, Sr. (Hackensack, NJ); aunts, Beatrice Givens (Charleston), Jeanette Williams, Diane Rutledge, Patricia Rutledge (all of Savannah, GA), Betty Givens(New York, NY), and Linda Veggacotto (Cleveland, OH); Best Friend and Sister in Christ, Evangelist Sirena Memminger (Ruffin), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
