Shirley Simmons Jenkins

With heartfelt love and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Shirley Jenkins, daughter of Allean Pringle and the late Edgar Manigault, who peacefully departed this life surrounded by family on July 9, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on January 17, 1952, Shirley lived a life marked by faith, dedication, hard work, and unwavering service to others.

Shirley devoted more than 30 years of faithful employment to Asten Johnson, where she worked as a Pin Seam Operator. She was admired for her strong work ethic, dependability, and commitment to excellence. Her coworkers respected her not only for her skill and dedication but also for the kindness and encouragement she shared each day.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Shirley was a devoted member of Trinity AME Church. She faithfully served her church family as a Stewardess and as a member of the Financial Board, giving generously of her time, talents, and heart. Her dedication to God’s work and her willingness to serve wherever she was needed reflected the strength of her Christian faith and her love for her church community.

Shirley will be remembered for her gentle spirit, compassionate heart, quiet strength, and the love she extended to her family, friends, church family, and everyone whose lives she touched. Her legacy of faith, service, and perseverance will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Rex Simmons; her beloved daughter, Tamika Jenkins; her siblings, Noralean Pringle, Emmalean Overby, Thiretha Pringle, Randolph Pringle, and Hannah Jane Johnson; and her beloved uncle, Roosevelt Simmons. Her best friends/sisters, Esther George and Jessie Mae Fair.

Left to honor and cherish Shirley’s legacy is her daughter, Shelena (Darryl) Bennett; her grandchildren, Jamaica Jenkins, Essence Frasier-Jenkins, Tyler Gant, Mykeem Gant, and Jah’mad Bennett; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Cortez, Colbi, Camille, and Cailan;  mother, Allean Pringle; siblings, Neptune Pringle, Jr., Rudolph (Carmile) Pringle, Shirley (William) Risher, Zakia Mahasa and Keith Manigault; Goddaughter, Takeshia Pinckney; Special bonus son, Eric Frasier; special cousin/caregiver, Edna Mae Wright; special cousin/brother, Louis Manigo; along with a host of numerous nieces, nephews, special first cousins, other relatives and friends.

Though she has departed from this earthly life, the memories she created and the love she shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
