On March 2, 2025, Mr. Seymour Mitchell affectionally known as “Mr. Big” peacefully answered God’s call to enter eternal rest on Sunday Morning. He was born on September 8, 1943, as the fourth son to the late Captain C. and Lula C. Mitchell.
He attended the public schools of Colleton County. Seymour spent many years in New Jersey before relocating back home in 1978. He spent years working for Elmer Door Company until their closure, where he then began working for Parker White, Inc, until he retired in 1993.
He being the strong man had a vision to then start his own business in 1993 called S&J Detail and Car Wash, where he serviced the Beaufort County patrons for 30 years.
While on this journey he was blessed to marry his love Mrs. Josephine Smalls Mitchell. During this union they shared 57 years together.
Seymour always dedicated his life to the Lord, and he was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church for many years but later joined The Community Christian Center.
Over the years he created many friendships, relationships, as well as business relationships. He also had the pleasure of joining the brothers of S.J. Bampfield Lodge #584, where he was the President until his health failed. He was a very devoted brother.
Seymour was preceded in death by his parents, Captain C. and Lula C. Mitchell and his brothers, John Mitchell, Ralph Mitchell and George Mitchell.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Josephine Mitchell; daughter, Karen M. (Jeff) Jenkins; sister-in-law, Elnora Mitchell; brother-in-laws, Bennie Smalls (Gloria) and Rev. Kenneth Smalls; grandchildren, Denitia Mitchell, Amber Mitchell, BreAsia Jenkins, Whitney Jones, Jamie (Keia) Smalls; seven great grandchildren; two very close cousins, Carrie Williams and Gladys Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
