Richard Singleton Obituary

Richard Lee Singleton, born August 29, 1942, to Mrs. Margaret and Mr. Sam Coaxum, where Mrs. Margaret passed away in childbirth with Richard as a baby, Mr. Eli and Mrs. Jennie Singleton adopted Richard and raised him as their own.


Richard attended Colleton County public school system in Walterboro, South Carolina.

Richard was a member of Aimwell Presbyterian Church at an early age, then he became a member of St. John Baptist Church, where he served for 60 years as a Deacon, where he was chairman of the Deacon board and also a member of the male chorus.

Richard was married to the late Viola A. Singleton, and they raised three children, Cathy R. Singleton, Clifford Alls and Ronnie Alls. He also served as a foster parent to four children.


In 2013 he was united in Holy Matrimony to Barbara Holmes. From this union he gained two bonus sons, Christopher and Nathan Lee Holmes.

Richard worked at various companies including: Dayco, Coastal Fruit, Teledyme Corporation, Spartan Trucking, and the Department of Highway and Transportation.
Richard was a hard worker and joined Masonic Lodge 221. He was also a member of the Eastern Star 221.
Richard loved fishing, gardening, and was a jokester to everyone who knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Barbara Singleton. Children: one daughter, Cathy Singleton, four sons, 
Ronnie Alls, Clifford Alls, Nathan Lee Holmes (Pam), and Christopher Holmes (Natasha). Four foster children, Leonard Daniels, Jermaine Allen, Greg Allen and Marion Allen. 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. One sister, Mary Murray, one brother, Pellum Coaxum (Queen), Sister and brother in-laws, Gloria M, Christine F., Sharon E., Iris A., Redell F., Cookie A., Greg A., Jimmy G., Carol Dixon, Gloria Clark (Ed), Irene Marshall (Mike), Terri Kelly (Rodney), Priscilla Hamilton (Tim), Joseph Saxby (Helena), Arron Saxby (Stella), and a host of nieces, nephew, relatives and friends.
