On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, as God was taking his daily stroll through his beautiful flower garden, He saw this “exceptional,” yet “exquisite” rose, who meant so much to his family, friends, and baseball community. God probably said to him, “Richard, my child, your work on earth is complete. You have gracefully given of yourself and the talents I bestowed upon you to your family, friends and the world. Well done thou good and faithful servant: thou have been faithful over a few things; I will make thee ruler over many things...enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”
Richard Jemel Bodison, affectionately known to many as “Ricky”, was born in Walterboro on December 10, 1970, to the late Mary Washington Bodison and Richard Lee Bodison. He attended the public schools of Colleton County and was a proud graduate of Walterboro High School Class of 1988. Richard enlisted into the United States Army and served a tour in Operation Desert Storm. He furthered his education and received his ASN Degree from Orangeburg Technical College, his BSN Degree from Chamberlin University, and his MSN as an Advanced Nursing Practitioner from Walden University. Ricky was no stranger to hard work. His quiet yet attentive mannerism afforded him the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. From Winn-Dixie to Pizza Hut to Colleton Medical Center to Mary Black Hospital, he touched and made an impact in the lives of so many. Richard was currently employed with Laurens County Palliative Care and Hospice, Clear Skye Treatment Center and Greenwood Treatment Specialist.
Richard had a passion for baseball. He served diligently as a coach, mentor, and friend to so many young men and impacted their lives in so many ways. Traveling from New York to Florida and many states between, the sport of baseball was a major part of his life. Ricky knew the Lord and had a personal relationship with Him. At an early age, he became a member of Rock of Ages CME Church. Ricky was preceded in death by, his first wife, Sabrina Levine Bodison, his mother Mary Washington Bodison, his beloved brother, Wesley Legrier Bodison and a best friend, Marc Malone.
