Reverend Jacob Middleton, Sr. (U.S. Army SFC-Ret.) Obituary

"And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things!" Romans 10:15

As we remember this scripture, we honor the walk of life of Reverend Jacob Middleton, Sr. Rev. Middleton was born December 11, 1937 to the late Isaac Middleton, Sr. and Bertha Levine Middleton. He departed this life on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at the Veteran Victory House in Walterboro, SC. Jacob began and completed his education at the Colleton Training High School inn Walterboro, SC. He entered the United States Army and served for twenty years. While in the military he mastered mechanics. After retiring from the military, he did most of  the mechanic jobs in his yard. He opened his own mechanic shop in Reesville, SC for while, but went back to working from his yard. He drove school bus for the Colleton County School District.  When he lived in Denmark, SC and had to make a visit to your home to check out your vehicle, he charged $25.00 for making house calls. 

Jacob was a faithful member of St. Paul CME Church, where he began his ministry under the leadership of the late Rev. Moses Doyle. He pastored at St. John CME Church in Leesville-Batesburg, SC, Rock of Ages CME in Walterboro, SC and Thompson Chapel CME in Estill, SC.

Preceding him in death are his wife Clara Cook P. Middleton and  siblings Rev. Elizabeth Ford, John Henry, Roosevelt, Johnathan, Sylvester, and Isaac Middleton, Jr.

Left to cherish many fond memories are: his children Colonel Jacob Middleton, Jr. of Centennial, Colorado, Brian Middleton of Gainsvile, Florida, Isaac Middleton of San Diego, California and Tanya Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia. Two sisters, Flora Gantt and Angie S. Gillison (Nathan) of Ritter, SC. Grandchildren, Miles and Jacob Middleton, III, Jordan and Jasmine Johnson, Nigel McGruder. One great grandson, Kieran Jacob Middleton.  Sister-in-laws, Rebecca Middleton and others. Clara's children who called him 'Pappa', Deidre Summers, Darren Peay, and Jarrod Peay. A devoted niece, Helen Ford. A host nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Rev. Edward Moultrie, Sr and the Rock of Ages CME Church Family

The public visitation will be held on Tuesday: August 11; 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the mortuary. Celebratory services will conclude on Wednesday: August 12, Eleven O' Clock in the morning: Walterboro Christian Center, 320 Robertson Blvd. Walterboro, South Carolina. The interment and final rites will immediately follow the service in the St. Paul CME Church Cemetery, 7897 Ritter Rd. Walterboro, South Carolina.  (Facial masks as well as social distancing will be enforced for visitation and funeral services)
