"I am home in Heaven, dear ones; Oh, so happy and so bright! There is perfect joy and beauty In this everlasting light"
Rebecca Jordan Bartley was born on December 12, 1929 to the late Elizabeth Jordan, Mingo and Jane Bartley. She departed this life on Monday, December 25, 2023 at the Pruitt Health Nursing Center in Walterboro SC.
She received her formal education in the public schools of Colleton County and later moved to New York where she lived and worked for more than two decades. After returning home, she continued her work in the hospitality industry until she retired. She joined Joshua AME Church where she served faithfully until her health began to fail. She was a fun-loving person with a generous and kind heart.
Rebecca was the youngest of twelve children born to Elizabeth Jordan and the last surviving child. She was the mother of five children. Two children preceded her in death, Jean Bartley and Jeffrey Bartley along with two grandchildren, Jamal Bartley and O’Brian Bartley.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Janie B. Riley of New York, New York; two sons, Johnny T. Bartley (Minnie) of Green Pond, SC and James D. Bartley of Austin, Texas; seven grandchildren (Troy, Derrick, Daryl, Jarell, Deidre, Deborah, and Destinié); eleven great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
