Mr. Nathan Walker, Jr., son of the late Nathan Sr. and Neader Walker, was born on April
12, 1935, in Cottageville, South Carolina. He departed this earthly life on Sunday,
October 20, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Junior, as he was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Colleton
County. Known for his unwavering commitment and work ethic, he entered the
workforce in the lumber business. He then found his lifelong career with the Colleton
County Department of Transportation from which he retired.
He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who was cherished by many.
Junior enjoyed getting into his truck, driving around Cottageville to visit friends, and
engaging in long conversations. His spirited phone debates, especially with the late
Sinclair Edwards are fondly remembered by those who knew him.
On October 19, 1957, he married the love of his life, Jestine Hampleton Walker. Together
they welcomed two children into their family.
Junior is preceded in death by his daughter, Bernice Walker Bennett; son, Jonathan
Walker; grandsons, Navar and Zachary Bennett; brothers, Aldrin, Cohen, and Herbert
Walker; and sisters, Helen and Inez Walker.
He leaves behind to cherish his loving memories his devoted wife Jestine Walker, of the
home; grandson, James A. Bennett (Andrea Brothers) of Cottageville, SC; sisters,
Virginia Walker, Walterboro, SC and Vivian Tucker, Summerville, SC; brothers, Clarence
Walker (Delores), Washington, DC and Lenell Walker (Sarah) of Round O, SC; Two
sister-in-law, Pearl Hampleton Green (John), Cottageville, SC and Betty Hampleton of
Washington, DC, and a host of other family members and friends who will miss him
dearly.
