On the morning of Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Heaven welcomed one of its own. With peace in her heart and her family by her side, Mother Nadine Lawton George departed this life and entered into eternal rest.
Nadine was born on September 7, 1950, in South Carolina to the late Benjamin Lawton and Ella Mae Newton Lawton. She was one of six children and grew up in a loving household where faith, family, and service were at the center of life.
At an early age, Nadine accepted Christ as her Savior and became a member of Sykes Savannah United Methodist Church, where she began building her lifelong relationship with the Lord. She was educated in the Colleton County School System, where she developed the values of hard work, compassion, and quiet leadership.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Henry L. George, and together they built a strong and loving family rooted in faith. From their union, God blessed them with ten children: Henrietta Geddis of Summerville, South Carolina (Eric Geddis); Mary George and Ella George, both of Lodge, South Carolina; Tammy Brown of Atlanta, Georgia (preceded in death by her husband, Glenn); Sharon George of Walterboro, South Carolina; Henry L. George, Jr. and Amanda George, both of Lodge, South Carolina; Nadine Aldea George of Walterboro, South Carolina; and Ammie George and Vincent George, both of Atlanta, Georgia. Each child was raised with tenderness, discipline, and prayer, and each carries forward her legacy of love, strength, and faith.
A true matriarch, Nadine was a guiding light to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many others. Her love knew no bounds — whether through a warm meal, a prayerful word, or a gentle hand, she gave of herself fully to everyone she encountered.
Nadine was preceded in death by her parents, great grandchildren and siblings: Barbara Ann Goff (James), Carrie Lawton, Albert Lawton, Joe Lawton, and Celliers Lawton. Grandchildren, Amiya Kali Simmons and Deon’tre Malik Brown.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving sister-in-laws, Reba Lawton and Barbara Williams. Also four brother-in-laws and a host of relatives and friends whose lives were touched by her presence.
Nadine lived a life of purpose, peace, and profound faith. She was a woman of few words but deep impact. Her presence could calm a room, and her prayers could change the atmosphere. She taught her family strength through storms, grace under pressure, and love without condition.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with her siblings, and loved ones gone before — resting now in the arms of her Savior. Her journey here may be complete, but her spirit, her lessons, and her love will live on through generations to come.
“Her children arise and call her blessed…” – Proverbs 31:28
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of thy Lord.” – Matthew 25:23
Her life was a blessing. Her memory a treasure. She is loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
