Ms. Michele Marie Magwood, daughter of William Harold Mikel, Sr., and the late Rosa Lee Magwood: maternal granddaughter of the late Maggie B. Magwood, who raised her as her own since the age of eleven: and paternal granddaughter of the late Harold Mikel (Rose): was born March 6, 1973, in Colleton County. Attending the public schools of Colleton County, Michelle was a graduate of Walterboro High School Class of 1992. She also furthered her studies and graduated from Ultimate Medical Academy, obtaining an associate degree in health medical science and Trident Technical College, where she completed her health care studies. Michele was employed as a General Manager at Lowcountry Cellular, a Care Provider at Voices of Tomorrow LLC, a Family Home care provider, and a Health Care Nurse with numerous agencies.
At an early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Mount Olive AME Church in Green Pond, SC. She then became a member of Heavenly Baptist Church in Green Pond, SC, where she began walking in her vocation as a psalmist and choir director. She later joined Bread of Life Ministries of Cottageville, SC, along with her brother and sister-in-law, Curtis, and Yolanda. When God called the two into the ministry, they began Agape Word of the Promise in Yemassee, South Carolina and Michelle became their very first member. During her time, she became the minister of music, pastoral and administrative assistant, kitchen lead, member of the pastor aid committee, and church nurse. She enjoyed praising God and served as the praise and worship team leader, and she was a dynamic vocalist.
Affectionately known as, “Big Red” she wore many hats and titles. A devoted granddaughter, mother, “Nana”, sister, aunty, niece, and friend, she was the matriarch of the family and a natural-born “Administrator”. Michele was outspoken and stood up for her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Her siblings looked up to her as a mother figure as she was the eldest sister. She loved children, and children loved her, and she showed them consistent love and discipline. She was also a very crafty individual. She enjoyed making flower arrangements and glass vase arrangements. She was Grandma Maggie's personal caregiver, and she took pride in caring for her. She was an awesome cook. She made the best red rice and took on baking Grandma Maggie's famous cornbread.
Her beautiful life will be forever cherished and remembered by her only child, Stanley Devon Wright, Jr.(Amanda) of Beaufort, SC: Bonus daughter, Vahnstanasia Wright of Walterboro, SC; God-Children Jerome Magwood, Jr., of Orangeburg, SC, Dante Rutledge of Walterboro, SC, Asia Brown of Green Pond, SC, and Shaniyah Morgan of Walterboro SC; siblings, Apostle Curtis E. Magwood, Sr. (Yolanda) of Charleston, SC, Vernisher Mikel of Walterboro, SC, William Mikel, Jr. (Latasha) of Huntsville, Alabama, Andrea Mikel of Fayetteville, NC and Nathaniel Larry Mikel, Jr., of Savannah, GA: eight grandchildren; Kamora Wright, Kyree Wright, Cameron Outler, Kaleyah Wright, Chamere Russell, Vondez Wright, Makiya Brothers, and Ivy Bowens: devoted friend the late Allen "Hot Rod" Jefferson: best friends; Loraine Pinckney, Shawn Frazier and Dominique Brown: along with a host of devoted aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Her time on the earth will truly be missed by many. Fly high, Michele "Big Red" we Love you.
