Ms. Karen Holmes daughter of the late Mr. Heyward Homes and Mrs. Mildred McCray-Holmes was born on December 31, 1952 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. At an early age Karen along with her family moved to Brooklyn, New York where she received her formal education in the public school system.
Always prepared to face a new endeavor, Karen decided to leave the city life behind and moved to Ruffin, South Carolina in 1990. Free spirited and independently clever along with the love she possessed for flowers and plants, Karen embarked on a new adventure and became Chief Operating Officer of "Lady K's" Landscaping service along with her faithful companion as Chief Executive Officer.
Preceding Karen in death along with her parents are loving companion of 17 years Howard B. Dubois, Children Howard and Deliah Holmes (Twins), and sister Mamie Holmes.
Left to cherish her doting and charasmatic memories are her loving partner of 26 years, Mr. Herbert Brown of the home, Daughter Charis Holmes of Brooklyn, N.Y., Three Sons, Paris Holmes of Brooklyn, N.Y., Armel Holmes of Denver, CO, and Nigel Holmes of White Hall, S.C. With undying love and affection Karen shared the responsibility of rearing her step-children, Tony Cooper, Jr., Latria Brown, and Harriett Brown all of Walterboro, S.C., Tina R. Foster of Denver, CO, and Latisha Lewis of Brooklyn, NY, all whom she loved as her own. She also leaves 23 grandchildren, and 3 great-granchildren along with a host of other relatives and friends.
