Ms. Barbara Barnes Obituary

Ms. Barbara Ann Barnes, the daughter of the late Lee Arthur Barnes & Eunice Polite Barnes; was born May 18, 1969, in Walterboro, South Carolina. She departed this life on May 13, 2023, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, South Carolina. Barbara was educated in the public schools of Colleton County and graduated with the Walterboro High School Class of 1987. She furthered her education at Denmark Technical College and Mansfield Business College, where she received a Certification in Data Entry. She worked at Mansfield Business College as a receptionist and as the Head Cashier for many years at Foodland.

Barbara Ann was an awesome daughter, sister, mother, niece, auntie, family member, and friend to many. She was always someone you could depend on. She loved her community of friends, was very soft-spoken, and believed in keeping the peace. She was there for you if you needed her even if you did not ask for help. Barbara Ann was such a good mother to her son Sonnett, and her life demonstrated the nurturing care she provided for him. Nothing else mattered more than her son Sonnet and she never complained but would always smile during the good and bad times. Her humble spirit was as contagious as her beautiful smile. Barbara loved and cared for many children in her home with love, and she made sure that they ate well. At the family functions, she was known as the cook in the family. At the Polite family gathering in December 2022, she was awarded the Best Cook.

Barbara Ann was a member of Miracle Deliverance Harvest of Praise of Yemassee, South Carolina; under the leadership of Bishop James Jones and her spiritual mother, Mary Jones. Barbara Ann was dedicated to her church family and the ministry for many years, serving as the President of the Usher Board. She also sang in the choir and was a very strong soprano. She had a servant’s heart and was always willing to serve wherever needed without a complaint.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister, Rosemary Polite.  Left to embrace the essence of her life are: son, Sonnett Divine Barnes: two brothers, Marshall Polite of Walterboro, SC, and Keith Barnes of Columbia, SC: two Sisters, Brenda Hollington (Kenneth) of Charleston, SC, and Charlene B. Williams (Irian) of Walterboro, SC. Nine nieces, Jessica, Lache, Chardea, Daisha, Jasmine, Charliyah, Kendra, Christian, Adrienne, and Katilyn: nephew, Irian, Jr.: two great nieces and five great nephews: two uncles, Stanley Polite and Reverend Prince Polite (Samuella): two aunts, Ruth Ann Shider (O’Harold) and Geraldine Bassett: God Mother, Minister Emily H.
