Mrs. Rose Mary Burgess Obituary

"God hath not promised skies always blue, Flowered pathway all our lives through. God hath not promised sun without rain, joy without sorrow, peace with pain. But God has promised strength for the day, Rest for the labor, light for the way. Grace for the trials, help from above, Unfailing sympathy and His undying love."

With saddened hearts we acknowledge the passing of the late Mrs. Rose Mary "Ann" Burgess. Mrs. Burgess, a resident of Walterboro, South Carolina was a loving mother, grandmother, and more to those who knew and loved her. As Celebration of Life arrangements are updated please keep the family in your prayers as they continue to journey through this hour of bereavment.

Mrs. Rosemary Burgess, daughter of Mr. Earl Jackson and the late Isabelle Pinckney, was born March 20, 1957, in the Ritter Community of Walterboro, SC.

At an early age, her family relocated to Florida and then later to New York. While residing in New York, she was educated in the public school system 206 and then later at Benjamin Franklin. After returning back to South Carolina, Rose, furthered her education at Technical of the Lowcountry in Beaufort, SC. She would then successfully obtain an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. For a number of years, she was employed with the Colleton County Academy, as an early childhood educator.

Avid in her faith, she was a member of the Soul Saving Refuge Center under the pastorate of Pastor E. Williams. She served as an usher and was faithful until her passing.

On August 7, 1987, Rose was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Mr. Samuel Burgess. This union would be blessed with years of love, and five wonderful children.

Rose was just that, a “rose”: not only to her family, but her students, friends and all who knew her. She was a matriarch of her family, and a jewel to know. Her legacy and smile will be a warm embrace to a void that now lies in the hearts of those who have been blessed by her presence. On Sunday: January 24, 2021; exactly two weeks after the passing of her husband, Sam; Rose transitioned into a place of rest from all of her labor and trials, to be reunited with her children and loving Savior.

Left to embrace her memories are: three loving daughters, Lashawnda Green, Ashlee (Ernest) Pinckney and Brittany Burgess; one son, Kentrell (Alexis) Jackson: one bonus son, Dante (Selita) Brown: Father, Earl Jackson: brothers, Johnny (Betty Jean) Pinckney, Larry Pinckney, Kenneth Pinckney and Ernest Joe Pinckney: sisters, Edith  Pinckney, Janet Pinckney, Jacqueline Jackson and Lorraine (Vance) Frasier: twenty-one grandchildren: two great-grandchildren: four aunts, Leola Wayne, Dorothy Simmons, Jessie Brown and Betty: one uncle, Mark Simmons: sisters in law, Sarah (Robert) Johnson, Elizabeth London, Carol Carter, Lavern Williams, Nathaniel Burgess and Ruth Burgess: several bonus grandchildren: along with a host of numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
