The Portrait of Life
Mother Merrio Atlena Belton, daughter of William and Agnes Jenkins; was born on July 13, 1937, in Amelia, Virginia. She was educated and graduated from the Amelia school system. She then entered the workforce and became gainfully employed with General Foods for thirty-five years, as office administration, until her retirement.
On August 25, 1976, Merrio was joined in Holy matrimony to Mr. Martin G. Belton, and they shared over forty-five years of love until her passing. As a firm believer in God Mother Merrio accepted the Lord as her Savior and became a baptized member of the Union Baptist Church of Greenburgh, New York. During her time, she faithfully served on the Usher board; until she relocated to Ruffin, SC, in 2012, along with her husband.
During the midday hours of August 20, 2022, while at the Pruitt Health of Orangeburg, South Carolina; Mother Merrio Atlena Belton, traded her time on earth for eternity in heaven. Though her passing has left a void, her legacy will be a comfort to all who knew and loved her. Preceding her in death along with her parents, are brothers, Louis Harris, Hayward Ward, and William Henry Jenkins; sisters, Mary Belle Foster, Jane Archer, and Dorothy Fields; sisters in love Lily Belton and Brenda Belton.
Left to cherish the portraits of her life, are loving husband, Martin G. Belton; niece who she raised as her daughter, Kisha Belton; and a nephew whom he raised as a son, Michael Belton; niece and nephew who always shared a place in her heart, Andrea Jenkins, and Wayne Everett Jenkins; her bonus Grandchildren; Kristopher Conaway, Kymberly Conaway (Goddaughter), and Kiana Conaway; sister in love, Alice Owens; brothers in Love Herman (Brenda) Belton, Odell (Lily) Belton, James (Donnie) Belton, Donald (Mardell) Belton and Kenneth Belton, for whom they shared years of supporting each other in health and life; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
