Lorilee (Lori) LaGrace was the first child born into the union of Joe and Gloria Adams. The vibrant and strong-willed Lori was born on Sunday, May 10, 1970, in Brooklyn, NY. Lori was always extremely nurturing and took her role as big sister and big cousin very seriously. Like her daddy, who preceded her in death, Lori didn’t mind throwing hands, especially when protecting someone she loved. Lori moved with her family from Brooklyn to Round O, South Carolina when she was in middle school. This was a challenging transition for her, which led her to become an educator who worked with middle schoolers. She was committed to advocating for them and showing students grace and understanding as they navigated adolescence.
At an early age, Lori accepted Christ and became a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Round O, SC, where she faithfully worshiped and served. Lori later joined New Life United Methodist Church in Walterboro, SC. She served in multiple roles there, including usher, choir member, certified Lay Servant, Lead Armor Bearer & Pastor’s Assistant, Trustee, and Vacation Bible School teacher. Wherever she was needed, Lori showed up and worked!
Education was very important to Lori. As a proud member of the Walterboro High School class of 1988, she continued her education by graduating from both Denmark Technical College and the University of South Carolina. Lori had a true servant’s heart. Throughout her life, she worked in service to others as a police officer with the Walterboro Police Department, a Business Education teacher at Colleton Middle School, and as Lead Armor Bearer and assistant to her pastor and dear friend, Reverend Angela Ford Nelson. After receiving her diagnosis and leaving her beloved classroom, Lori began a business as a consultant for Paparazzi Accessories. This allowed her to make a living while making others feel beautiful. Paparazzi and the connections that came along with it brought her so much joy.
On September 10, 1999, Lori joined hands in marriage with Robert Adams. They built a life together and welcomed two beautiful children into their home. First came Robert (RL), her pride, on January 8, 2001. Then came Kaitlyn, her joy, on November 28, 2007. Lori took her role as mother and wife very seriously and poured everything she had into serving Robert, RL, and Kaitlyn. Lori will be deeply missed by her husband of twenty-four years, Robert, who she lovingly called Snake; her children Robert “RL” and Kaitlyn; her mother Gloria; her siblings Kim (Michael), Bridget (Stephen), Joe “Skip” (Marquitis); three siblings by marriage Barbara (Isaac), Richard, and Patsy (Rick); five aunts Barbara Badger, her godmother Elise (Jasper) Gadsden, Deborah Simon, Genevieve (Joe), and Sharon (June) Britt; three uncles Robert Tobin, Alexander Tobin, and Jeffrey (Keli) Tobin; four godchildren Ja’leesa “China” (Rasheed) Fair, Shakerra Sanders, Tae Colleton, and Chase Colleton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; special friends and caregivers, including Linda Jordan, Sharon Jones, and her dear Cathy “Ma” Moultrie, and Torsha Fleming.
Lori was a people person and never met a stranger, which led to her being blessed with a big supportive community during her battle with cancer. She was grateful for each and every person that walked alongside her throughout her journey.
