With humbled hearts, we announce the passing of Mrs. Lina Mae Aiken. A native of the Ruffin community and resident of Walterboro; Mrs. Aiken, 80, leaves her legacy of life to her children, grandchildren and a host of numerous relatives and friends that will forever cherish her memories.
Mrs. Lina Mae Lingard Aikens the daughter of the late Herman Pearlie Lingard and Precious Lou Boatwright Lingard was born on May 21, 1939 in Colleton County, SC. She made a peaceful exit to glory on Friday March 13, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Walterboro SC.
At an early age, she joined Sykes Savannah #2, which later became Red Root UMC Ruffin, SC. As a member she sang with the Red Root Choir faithfully, until her health began to decline.
She attended Colleton County public schools. Upon completing her education, she entered the work force. In 1989 after many years of dedicated service, she retired from work for Oakwood Nursing Home in Walterboro, South Carolina. Lina Mae, was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Curley “Red” Aiken on March 10, 1956. This union would be blessed with eight children. She LOVED to cook, and her house was open to everyone on every day, but especially on Sundays. She never met a stranger, and she “LOVED” her children and grand/great grandchildren. Lina love to fish, play bingo and most of all she enjoyed life to the fullest.
Preceding her in death along with her husband are: two children Goldie Salley and Francis R. Aiken; one grandson Anthony A. Aiken; sister Heather Generette; two brothers, Robert Lingard and Herman L. Lingard, Sr.; and daughter- in-law Wanda J. Aiken. To celebrate her life, she leaves her children: Dianne Aiken of Leesburg Florida, Lillie Aiken of Walterboro, SC., Mark A. Aiken, Mitchell L. Aiken, James A. Aiken, and Pamela M. Aiken all of Ruffin, SC: son in law, James Salley of Walterboro SC: daughter in law, Tawana Aiken of Ruffin SC: a nephew in heart raised as a son, Herman L Lingard, Jr. of Ruffin SC: one brother, Marion (Annie Mae) Lingard; three sisters Catherine Breland, Garfernell Hayes, and Sylvia Lingard: sister-in- law Bertha Sharpe, brother-in-law: Edgar (Annie Lee) Akins: twenty two grandchildren, forty seven great grandchildren, one special Aunt Thelma Greene: a special friend Ruth Lynah; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
