Mrs. Jessie Bryan Obituary

Mrs. Jessie Mae Bryan was born on March 3, 1939, in (Brick Chimney) Yemassee, South Carolina to the parents of Josh and Lucille Richardson Brown. She attended grade school in Colleton County and graduated from Colleton High in 1957. She accepted Christ at a young age and believed in the Lord. After school, she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with her
aunts for more opportunities. She worked at Crown Laundry for six months and then met the love of her life, Leon Bryan. From this union, they raised 10 children. They opened Bryan’s Soul Food Restaurant for 11 years and then relocated back to South Carolina in 1984 where they are both from. She was self-employed as a Property Manager for years.

Jessie was truly a pillar in her community. She was selfless server and worked tirelessly to create a legacy for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, doting grandmother, and had many friends and extended family. People would come from miles away just to get a plate from her. She is well known for her Leon’s fried chicken. People always said she never made one enemy in her life, because if she did, she’d feed them her famous fried chicken, and they’d be down with her after that. She was also very wise beyond her years. She always gave good advice to whoever would listen and would even give you the shirt off her back, if necessary.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Josh and Lucille Brown, her sisters: Ivenia Rather, Barbara Brown, Rosalee Shepard; her brothers: Clifford Brown and Alfred Brown; her sons: Leon Bryan Jr. and Aaron Bryan. She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband of 52 years, Leon Bryan; children: Andre (“Donald”) Brown, Paulette Bryan, Charlotte (“Robin”) Bryan, Dorothy (“Neicy”) Bryan, Roger (“Bo”) Bryan all of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Donnell (“Billy”) Bryan (Shana) of Summerville, South Carolina, Kesha Bryan of Ladson, South Carolina, Michelle (“Jackie”) Brown of Round O, South Carolina, God-daughter Jessica Sanders; her sisters: Margie Roger of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Yvonne Green (Ulysses) of Charlotte, North Carolina; her brother: Cleveland Brown (Shelia) of Walterboro, South Carolina; Special friends: Ruth Shider and Ellla Perry, and a host of grandchildren, great-grands, nieces, nephews, her Round O Community, and all those who loved her.

We humbly ask each of you to continually pray much for and with this family as they go thru this difficult time.
