Mrs. Janie Ruth (Rivers) Walker

Sis. Janie Ruth Walker also known as Lady Bug was born on May 22, 1933, in Ritter, SC to the late Jonas Rivers and Mrs. Eloise Singleton Rivers. She was called home to the Lord on November 30, 2021, at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, SC. As a young girl she had to stop going to school to help her mother care for her siblings. Though she really wanted to go to school she honored her mother’s wishes of being. She developed a relationship with Christ after becoming a member of Cumberland United Methodist Church.
In her adult years she moved to Bronx, NY and went to school two years studying home health. She worked as a home care aide for fifteen years and a housekeeper for fourteen years. She was later joined in holy matrimony to the late Arthur E. Walker, Sr. and to this union a daughter and son was born, also joined by a stepdaughter. She found a church home at Loyal Baptist Church where she ushered, sang on the senior choir, and cooked Sunday dinner amongst other duties. After Sunday service family and friends would come to Janie’s house for a home cooked meal and her famous cakes. She always welcomed family and friends with open arms and gave to whoever was in need.
In her Later years she moved to Walterboro, SC, and Cumberland UMC. She enjoyed sewing, watching baseball, the Young & the Restless, gardening, church, and family trips. She was very peaceful woman, but she’d never let you forget she’d take a switch and cut your behind with love.

She is preceded in death by James Kelly in which they conceived three sons.

Left to cherish her memories are four sons and one daughter; Williams Kelly, Sr. (Elaine) of Bronx, NY; Vincent Kelly of Walterboro, SC; Henry Kelly ( Priscilla) of Albany, NY; Arthur Walker of Walterboro, SC; and Zellean “Cookie” Walker of Bronx, NY; two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Robinson (Arnold) of Catholic Hill, SC; and Mrs. Hermina Wilson of Walterboro, SC; two brothers, Mr. Joe Louis Rivers of Walterboro, SC; and Mr.Lemark Rivers ( Virginia) of North Carolina; thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and best friends for over forty years.
