Mrs. Helen Mills Obituary

"When Jesus called me home, it was my time to go; Peacefulness is a joyful thing, that’s for each of you to know.  I’ve given all I could give, I’ve walked with a smile; To all that survive me, I’ve cried my last cry and I’ve walked my last mile. Remember me in everything you do, Go, be strong, take the same steps I have. Don’t have sorrow in your heart, or malice in your soul, there is a God and He’s in control. Jesus has called me home, and I’m not afraid to go; I love you son, I love you daughter, love you friend; But God’s eternal love for me has no end."

Mother Helen Levine Snow Mills departed this life on Thursday, January 6, 2022, with her two daughters, Jacqueline, and Susan by her side: while at Colleton Medical Center, in Walterboro, SC. Helen was born on April 25, 1938, to the late Pearlie Mae and Thaddeus Levine. She matriculated through the Colleton County School System where she enjoyed learning and making friends with anyone she met. After graduation, she welcomed her first born daughter, Jacqueline D. Levine.  As life brought about changes, Helen relocated to Columbia, SC. While there, she met and married the late M. Sgt. Joseph D. Snow, Sr. and this union welcomed Ruth, Susan, Joseph, Eddie, Michael, and Tanya Snow.

Returning to Walterboro, after spending a portion of her life along with her family in New York, Helen met a lifelong friend and partner, Mr. Edward Ross.  Helen cherished her family and took pride in caring for her children and helping to raise some of her grand and great grandchildren. With a love like no other, Helen took her granddaughter Ariel as her own daughter. Her along with Mr. Ross, spent time helping Ariel prepare for many pageants. This time and consistency would pay off because Ariel would win most of these pageants. With love and dedication being demonstrated such as this, it was evident that, “Momma loved her family.”

Mother Helen LOVED THE LORD! Psalm twenty-three, her favorite Scripture, governed her life and she kept her Bible at her bedside each night! The Lord was indeed her Shepherd guiding her to accept Christ at an early age, to join New Life United Methodist Church, where she was an active and beloved member until the time of her passing. During her tenure, she served in many different capacities, such as: member of the Red Hat Ladies; singing on the Choir, raising money for the church, and serving with the United Methodist Women’s Group.  Also, her along with her daughter Susan, spent numerous times preparing delicious meals for the sick and shut-in throughout the community and making blankets and other items for those in the nursing home and the local elderly. Helen was a servant to all, and she leaves a legacy of love and service for her family and friends to continue in Jesus’ name!

As she has left a legacy of life, preceding her in death along with her parents, are: one son, Eddie Snow: two brothers, Thaddeus Levine, Jr. and Lewis Levine; and a lifelong partner and friend, Edward “Cat Tail” Ross.

Left to embrace her portraits of life are Children, Jacqueline Mumford-Jones, Ruth Snow, Susan Snow, Joseph Snow, Jr. Michael (Patricia) Snow and Tanya Snow: granddaughter reared in the home, Ariel Robinson: “Special daughter” Evangelist Mattie Taylor; Goddaughter, Mya: twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, and four great great-grandchildren; along a with a host of numerous other relatives and many caring friends.

On behalf of this bereaved family, we humbly solicit all prayers of comfort and consolation during their time of bereavement.
