Mrs. Dorothy W. Roundtree, the daughter of the late Rethel Williams, Sr., and Estelle W. Sanders; was born on April 23, 1933, in Ruffin, SC. She graduated from Colleton Training School and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Claflin College. She was employed with the Colleton County School district for over thirty-five years, until her retirement. All of her students have a “Mrs. Roundtree” story that they can share with you about her discipline and rules, which helped to mold them into who they are today.
Dorothy became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church at the age of thirteen and later served as the church secretary for the Walterboro Parish, Wesley, Cumberland, and Isaiah U.M. Churches, for many years. Her membership continued at New Life U.M. Church, where she sang on the Adult Choir. She faithfully served on the United Methodist Women Ministry and the Older Adult Ministry until her health failed.
Dorothy was a “Pearl Member” of Xi Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and was the longest serving Chapter Secretary. Her patience was shown through her favorite hobby, assembling jigsaw puzzles. It would take her forever to put all those tiny pieces together, but she would not stop until it was complete. Then she would take it apart and start on another one. Her attitude of perseverance was reflected wherever she served. Dorothy lent her talents thoroughly, willingly, wholeheartedly, and faithfully.
