The Legacy of A Queen

Mrs. Deirdre Lynn Behling Holmes, daughter of the late William Behling and Henrietta Fishburne Sanders, was born, February 26, 1970, in Bronx, New York.  Raised in the Sandhill Community of Walterboro, South Carolina, Deidre was educated in the public schools of Colleton County and graduated Walterboro High School class of 1988.  Upon receiving her high school diploma, Deirdre believed in working and was employed with several jobs.  She served as a laborer with Apparel Master, a cook at Oakwood Nursing Home and a cashier at Walmart. Lastly, Deidre finally found her calling and became a foster parent, nurturing and caring for numerous children, as her own.  

Deirdre was a firm believer in God and tried her best to live everyday according to the Word of God.  She accepted Christ at an early age and became a baptized member of the St. John Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late, Rev. R. M. Youmans. Deirdre possessed a passion for family, like no other. Anything that she was asked to do, it was done within the blink of an eye.  Her favorite hobbies were fishing, crabbing, and playing bingo.  She was an avid believer also in her favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys.   A true “Queen” she was a lady who stood for what she believed and demonstrated true love, wherever she was.  

On Saturday: July 23, 2022; Deirdre, along with her son, traded time for eternity. Preceding her in death are parents, William Behling and Henrietta & Nathaniel Sanders, Sr.; two brothers, Bruce Fishburne and Nathaniel Sanders, Jr.  Left to cherish her memories, husband, James Holmes; Sons, James "J.J." (Kiarra) Holmes, Bruce "Kavon" (Jacquline) Holmes, Christian Holmes, Jakylon Sanders, and James Davonte Holmes: one daughter, Aaliyah Sanders; grandchildren, Serenity Pinckney, Ty’ Heim Behling, Ty’ Quan Behling, Tim’ Ayjha Behling, Aden Rivers, Ashton Rivers, Timothy Behling, Timiyah Behling, Austin Rivers, Kalaysia Shamyia Holmes, Kylah Armani Holmes, James Lee Holmes, III, Jalaiah Lynn Holmes and twins (Zakhar’ De’ir and Zakhi Timon Behling) that will arrive in December: one brother, Nathanyal “Midew” Godbold; mother in law, Sadie Holmes; Sister in law, Deena Holmes; brother in law, Sinclair (Monica) Holmes; Aunts, Mary Singleton, Cansalee (Tony) Johnson, Lula Mae Cannon, Eva Fishburne and Christina Washington: Uncles, Reverend Nathaniel (Lynn Ann) Fishburne, Leroy Behling, Diral Miller, Alexander (Edna) Wright and Lemuel (Belle) Behling, Jr.: godchildren, Brittany Holmes and Jordan Williams: cousin that was like sisters, Monica Holmes, Sherlie “Ola” Holmes, Rosazetta Kirkland and Sophia Lewis: along with a host of numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

As service arrangements have been updated, please note services will be live-streamed.  At the request of the family, they have requested NO PHOTOS to be taken during any of the final services. Please let us continue to pray much for and with this family, as they journey thru this difficult time.
