A Portrait of his life
Mr. Vernon Gilbert, son of Mr. Coy Gilbert and the late Daisy Mae Davis; was born September 16, 1965, in Walterboro, South Carolina. Vernon was educated in the public school of Colleton County and graduated from Colleton High School, class of 1984. Upon completing high school, Vernon developed a trade in carpentry and would go on to make this his lifelong career. He became employed as a carpenter and worked for numerous years building things, wherever he went. His true passion for carpentry was even displayed on his time off from work as he built and fixed things around his home and for his close, family and friends.
Vernon met the love of his life, and on May 26, 1985; Vernon and Joanne would be joined in Holy Matrimony. This union would be blessed with three children. Vernon was one who had a greater love for his family. He was a people’s person, with a heart of gold. Even in his reserved demeanor, his characterspoke volumes and demonstrated what a man was.
On August 28, 2022, at 4:38 P.M.; while at the Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston; Vernon was calledto his eternal rest. Along with his mother, he is also preceded in death by brothers, Coy Ervin Gilbert, and Bobby L. Davis.
Left to cherish his memories; are his loving wife, Joanne Gilbert: children, Vernon Gilbert, Jr., Sherie Nicole Gilbert, and Marcener Jasmine Gilbert: father, Mr. Coy Gilbert, Sr.: sister,Barbara (Kevin) Fryar: four grandchildren, I’Kia, Vernon III, Zamaria and Rhianna: sister-in-law, Mary Middleton: two brothers-in-law, Ronald Reagan and Curtis Smoak: along with a host of numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
