Mr. Tom Dent, Jr.

"Sunset and evening star and one clear call for me, And may there be moaning of the bar, when I put out to sea."  A beloved father, and family man; his ninety-one years of life has been a testament of the impact of the legacy of his life.  Thomas Dent Jr. was born on December 1, 1928 to the late Thomas Dent Sr. And Julia Evans-Dent, in Green Pond, SC. These proud parents knew their son would  touch the lives of many with his smile, wisdom, and abundance of love. “Tom” as he was fondly called enjoyed school and playing on the dirt roads of Wiggins.
 

Thomas was educated in Colleton County Public Schools. Before being honorably discharged as a Sergeant in the United States Army, Thomas served on the front line during the Korean War as a Top Gunner. Thomas moved to New York City in 1956. During that time he met and married Barbara Wescott. Of that union came three children. In 1991 Thomas retired from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. In 2018, he moved back to South Carolina. Thomas Dent Jr. departed this life peacefully on November 27, 2020.
 

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Wescott-Dent; sisters Anna-Bell Johnson, Edna D. Koger, and Mariah Dent; brothers Clarence Dent, Tony Dent, James Dent, and Willie Dent; and two siblings that died at birth Carolina Dent and John Dent; and great-grandson Ja’rell Dent-Benner.
 

He Leaves to cherish his memories his children Carlton Thomas Dent of New York; Elliott Dent of Goose Creek, SC; and Jennifer Dent-Simpkins (Steve) of Summerville, SC; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

There will be a walk-thru visitation on: Friday, December 11, 2020, 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the mortuary.  A celebration service will be conducted on Saturday: December 12, @ Eleven O' Clock in the morning, The Legacy Chapel of Koger's Mortuary. Final rites and interment will follow in the St. Paul Presbyterian Church Cemetery, also known as " Dent Cemetery", located in Adams Run, SC. Services will be live-streamed. (In an effort to protect the public health and reduce the spread of Covid-19; facial masks and social distancing practices will be enforced.)

As this family continues thru their time of bereavement, we humble our hearts and ask for continued support and prayers of consolation for them during this difficult time.
