Scipeo Magwood was born on May 28, 1941 to the late Quincy W. Magwood, Sr. and Rosa Bell (Osborne) Magwood in Round O, South Carolina.
He was an active member of Trinity A.M.E. Church of Round O and was educated in the Colleton County Public School System.
In 1958, he moved to New York where he met and married the love of his life, Lacy A. Monroe. Lacy and Scip (her special name for him) settled in Brooklyn, NY.
In 1965, Scipeo was drafted into the U.S Army and served honorably for 4 years. After his service, he was employed on Wall Street as a Finance Banker for over 30 years until his retirement in 2011.
Blessed with an entrepreneurial spirit, Scipeo established his own business and named it S&L Cleaning Company. Building this business from the ground up, Scipeo provided a family and friends atmosphere to the many young people he employed in the Central Islip area while producing excellent service to all of his clients.
Scipeo took his role as mentor very seriously as he provided both advice and economic support to many young people but his only son Attorney Derrick Magwood, was his pride and joy.
While Scipeo possessed a humble and calming spirit, he was a passionate sports fan. Always rooting for the Jets, Mets and Knicks, he passed down this passion for the
same teams to his son and grandson.
Scipeo and Lacy were married 58 years. From their union came their beloved son, Derrick Magwood. He also embraced Dwayne Cox, Leo Franco and Sterling Patterson as his honorary sons. He enjoyed every moment he had with his grandchildren Derrick and Morgan, or as he affectionately called them, “Buddy and Morg”.
Scipeo leaves to cherish his memory his wife Lacy; son Derrick and his wife April; two grandchildren Derrick Ryan and Morgan Nicole; brothers Richard Magwood and his wife Dorothy, Quincy Magwood and his wife Elaine; sister Mabel Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Quincy and Rosa Magwood; sisters Marie Nelson and Lillian Magwood; brothers Burley, Clarence and Milton Magwood.
