Samuel James, a native of Green Pond, was born in Colleton County, SC
on April 14, 1953, to the late Evelena Judge and Isiah James. He
received his education from the public school system of Colleton
County. His siblings are Frankie Judge, Richard Robinson, Benjamin
James, and Edith Stephens.
He was affectionately known as Sam or “Sammie J.” Sam was an avid
fisherman. In addition, he loved playing spades, watching soap operas,
Lifetime movies, professional wrestling, gardening, and spending time
with his family and friends.
Sam was well known for being a hard worker. He was employed with
Wood Brothers for 20 years, Paul & Dalton Plantation for 10 years, Tide
Peat for five years, and various other jobs in between.
He enjoyed 15 amazing years with his long-time partner Ms. Shirley
Wright and loved her children as his own. Sam was preceded in death
by Ms. Shirley Wright, his siblings: Richard Robinson, Benjamin James,
and Edith Stephens, and sisters-in-law Delores Chislom James, Annette
Griffin James, and Susan Judge.
He was loved by many. He will be missed, but always remembered: by
his only child, Charlena Edwards (Dorian Edwards) of St George, SC. His
three grandchildren Shanequa Edwards-Altman (Eliot Altman), Jared
Edwards, and Jadon Edwards. His brother-in-law Tyrone Stephens. Sam
also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, and
other caring friends whom he loved dearly.
