Obituary

Always promoting family, love and laughter, Ronald Lewis departed his life on April 10, 2023, after a short bout with illness. Ronald was born in Augusta, Georgia on May 29, 1950, to the late Clarence and Mollie Lewis and was the third child consumed through this union. At an early age, Ronald was privileged to spend some of his youthful years with his beloved aunt and uncle Rev. Odell and Ms. Beatrice Hightower. It was during this time that he developed a strong work ethic by passionately assisting with the daily crop and livestock maintenance. He attended Doc Kemp Schools in Wrightsville, Georgia and at an early age joined the St. Galilee Baptist Church. Ronald continued his education via the New York City Public Schools. During his tenure at Lawrence Jr. High School, Queens New York he acquired the first-place record by running a quarter of a mile in 50 seconds. His exceptional record still stands today.

In 1976, Ronald married his first love Georgia Merriweather. He united with the Mount Zion Baptist Church and faithfully attended with his mother. During this time, he also served as a United States Postal Worker. Using his skills acquired while attending the Job Corps, Ronald pursued a career in printing. His passion grew in this area, and he was excited to teach the trade to his only son. Ronald remarried in 1996 to Mary Moore. They relocated to Connecticut, and both joined the Pilgrim Way Baptist Church. Ronald joined the Male Chorus and was often selected to lead the choir in their renditions of gospel music. At the time of full retirement, Ronald was determined to unite with his family and return to his Southern roots. In February of 2022, he moved to Aiken and soon united with Zion Fair Baptist Church with the intent of worshipping along with his brothers. He assumed employment with the Salvation Army and was proud of his assigned duties and the acquaintances he made.

Ronald leaves to mourn his wife Mary of 27 years; five children- Rhonda Lewis-Nicholson, (Wayne); Acacia Heyward (Harold Glenn); Trina Hankerson (Elliot); Michael Lewis Sr (Lachelle) and Nyesha Johnson. His grandchildren include Rayvon, Jaleesa, Michael T, Diamond, Desmond, Tyrell, Andrew, Faith. Kiara, Michael Jr, Shontelle, Bria, Mercedes, Sheldon, Heaven-Anjail and Sinceer. Two stepchildren Viola Brown (Victor Brown) and Patricia Hudson (Noel Hudson) along with their children Eric Jr., Tyrone, Rhonda, Kerry and Michelle. He was a brother to 6 siblings Clarence Jr. (Chris), Charles (Lucia), Carl and one sister Vivian (Linton). Two brothers preceded him in death Herbert (Joyce) and Jerome (Denise). Ronald was also very proud of his 30 great grandchildren. He also had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, acquaintances, and friends.

Ronald will be missed as he was a constant link that worked to bind us together as a family rooted in Christian love. Blessed be those seeds that he so frequently sowed.

On behalf of this family, they thank each of you for your many thoughts, prayers, love and support shown to them during their hour of bereavement. They ask that everyone continue to keep them uplifted as they mourn the loss of their dearly departed loved one.
