Mr. Robert Lee Grant, Jr.

Mr. Robert Lee Grant, Jr., son of the late Robert Lee Sr., and Dorothy M. Grant: was born on August 11, 1970, in Colleton County. He received his formal education in the public schools of Colleton County and graduated from Walterboro High School. Believing in work, he worked various jobs which included: Sanders Constructions, CCX, Asten Hill, painter and landscaping on Hilton Head Island and most recently in the logging industry, until his health began to decline. 

At an early age he joined St. Paul CME Church of Walterboro, SC. As an adult he then became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Cottageville, SC, under the leadership of Dr. A. L. King. On April 19, 2013, Robert was joined in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life and Queen of his castle, Ms. Doretha “Nett” Gathers.  These two would share in love and companionship until he was called home.

Affectionately known as, “Lee” he was a very caring and hard-working person.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand in any way.  Some of his favorite past times included: playing cards, shooting dice, gambling, but his most heartfelt was playing his numbers. 

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” 2 Tim. 4:7 The Bible leaves no doubt, that there is life after death, during the late hours of Friday: June 16, 2023, while at the Lexington Medical Center of Columbia, SC, Lee departed from the shores of time as he was called to be with His Lord and Savior.  Preceding him in death along with his parents, are: brothers; Lincoln, Ronald, Joseph, and one sister Mary D. Manigault.

Left to embrace the portraits of his life are, loving wife, Doretha Gathers-Grant; four children: Kasheim and Oshulum Grant, Cheumalt and Chela Gathers: father-in-law; Harry Gathers: seven grandchildren; Skye Fishburne, Sundai Grant, Emir and Endi Gathers, Eden Greene, Emari Roberts and Joi Elliot:  three sisters: Wilamae Sims, Berlie (Willie) Richards and Helena (Leroy) Singleton: two brothers; Calvin (Lisa) Grant and Dwayne (Margie) Grant: brothers-in-law; Harold Jenkins, Gerald (Barbara) Stephens, Anthony (Pamella) Gathers, Harry (Tasha) Gathers, Jr., Ronald (Shirley) Jenkins, Gregory Gathers and Gregory Green: sisters-in-law; Tina Gathers, Shanda (James) Belton, Monique Gathers, Shirlene and Dominique Gathers: along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family extends special thanks to the staff of Trident Medical Center, Pruitt Health of Augusta & Millennium’s Post-Acute Rehabilitation, and Colleton Medical Center, for their unwavering care and concern for our loved one.
