Mr. Norman Emmanuel Mincey, 73, son of the late Lula Staten Mincey was born on June 1, 1949, in Walterboro, South Carolina. Being brought up in the close-knit communities of Sanders Street, Blanchard Line and Doodle Hill, Norman was educated in the Colleton County School District. Becoming an adult, Norman relocated to New York City for many years where he worked with a manufacturing plant. As time passed, he longed to be back South and returned to Walterboro. He became employed with the Todd Land Agency of as a handy man, and remained faithful in his service for over twenty years until his health began to decline.
Norman was a gentle giant with a heart for his family. He especially had a special bond with his brother, Estis, whom he referred to as “Crow”. Their love for each other was strong. However, he was known for his no-nonsense attitude and booming voice. He did not leave you wondering what he thought on any issue. You would often see him around town on his beloved bicycle handling his business.
During the midday hours of Thursday: March 16, 2023, while in the care of the Summerville Community Hospice House, Norman transitioned into his immortal slumber. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters; Joanne Mincey, Rebecca Simmons and Jeannette Aiken; sister-in-law, Maybell Ladson Mincey; brother-in-law, Louis Butterfield; and grandson, DaQuan Lawton.
Left to cherish the memories of this gentle soul, his children; Shirley Hampleton (Mark) and Wayne Gethers, both of Walterboro, SC, and Charlene Mincey of Hilton Head SC; seven grandchildren; Sha’Quan Lawton, Shi’Tyeana Wilson, Darius Wilson, Keyana Wilson, Marcus Hampleton, Marqus Hampleton and Shavon Geathers; eight great-grands, Sha’Korey Lawton, London Wilson, Jay’Ceon Wilson, Kartuer Wilson, Jay’Von Jordan, Jacobe Taylor, Kaden Taylor and Cameron Taylor; one brother, Estis Mincey of the home; sisters, Patricia Butterfield of Walterboro, SC and Alice Legree of Brooklyn, NY; along with many nieces, great nieces; nephews, great nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
