On Wednesday: November 4, 2020, during the late evening hours, while in the Ralph H. Johnson Medical Center: Mr. Melvin Benning waved farewell, as he looked onward towards his eternal home in glory. As a comfort to his family he uttered these few soft words," I' am free, Praise the Lord I'm Free. I'm no longer bound and there are no chains holding me; my soul is resting and that is a blessing...Praise the Lord, Hallelujah I'm free." A resident of Walterboro, South Carolina: Mr. Benning (76) leaves his legacy to be cherished with his devoted wife, Carrie, and their wonderful children and grandchildren.
As Koger's Mortuary Service is in charge of the final arrangements; Services of Remembrance will be conducted on Monday: November 9, 2020 at Three O' Clock in the evening, in the Legacy Chapel of Koger's Mortuary. The interment with final rites will conclude on Tuesday: November 10, 2020 at the Beaufort National Cemetery, in Beaufort, South Carolina. (Facial masks as well as social distancing practices will be enforced during the service.)
