John Michael Davis, affectionately known as, “Big John”, age 73 passed away peacefully on Friday, December 30, 2022, in Walterboro, South Carolina.
John “Michael” was born on March 24, 1949, to the late Mary Brisbon Davis and Willie Cook Davis in Queens, New York. He was the second born of their five children and spent most of his formative years in New York. At the age of 13, the family moved to Green Pond, South Carolina where he lived until he made his transition.
As a boy, Michael loved tractors. His first job was driving a tractor for his cousin, Joe Kinsey where he learned to farm and take care of livestock. John also had a unique fascination with wristwatches; he was determined to discover what made them “tick”.
Although he didn’t have any biological children; he claimed many nieces and his friend's children as his own. John “Michael” displayed his love “differently” at times, but when he liked you, he was quick to give you a nickname that lasted through his lifetime: Skinny (no matter how large you’d gotten over the years), Puppy, Grownie, and Bushy.
John was a good-standing member of Mount Olive AME Church where he accepted Christ and served as an Usher.
Preceding him in death along with his parents are brother Michael (Lil Bill).
He leaves to cherish his memory, his siblings Bette Jean (Wesley), Charles (Dawn),and Lillian, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
