Joe Fred Glover the oldest son of the late Joe Glover, Jr. and the late Lottie Grant Glover Fields was born on July 11, 1949 in Walterboro, South Carolina. On Friday morning, March 17, 2023 at Lowcountry Community Hospice House, Summerville, South Carolina, he transitioned into eternity.
He graduated from Colleton High School in 1967. He earned an associate’s degree from Beaufort Technical College and majored in automatic transmissions. He spent years, while employed at JP Stevens, as a mobile mechanic as well as working in his shop. Past employment includes Walterboro Ford Motor Sales, Garris Auto Salvage, and he retired from the South Carolina Department of Student Transportation. He was a bus driver for three years during his retirement.
Joe led a very active and fulfilling life. In his early years, he played drums at the club and was known as “Mr. Good Foot”. He coached youth and adult basketball teams as well as played in the Colleton County Recreation League which led to several championships. He was a member of the Colleton County Mass Choir from its inception, a Mason, and forty years with the Gospel Upsetters as drummer and singer.
He was drafted into the United States Army, serving his country two years (April 18,1969-April 18, 1971). His ranking was E5 making him a sergeant. Even though this was during the Vietnam era, part of his military stint was in Germany instead of Vietnam.
He joined Oakman Branch Baptist Church at a young age. In later years, he joined Red Root United Methodist Church. At Red Root United Methodist, he served in many capacities - Administrative Board Chair, United Methodist Men president, musician, trustee, choir president, Lay Speaker and landscaper. After leaving Red Root UMC, he joined New Life United Methodist Church and was a Lay Servant, choir member, and musician.
On December 18, 1971, he married Elizabeth Fryar, a union that resulted in three children.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Andrea Fryar, Jacksonville, FL; Donnell Glover, Ruffin, SC; and Tameshia Glover, Moncks Corner, SC; six grandchildren, Brandon Fryar and Deondre Way both of Jacksonville, FL; Kyeon Glover, Ridgeland, SC; Kemandre Glover, Savannah, GA; Umar Williams and Jayla Williams both of Moncks Corner, SC; three great-grandchildren, Olivia Jackson, Kyeonna Glover, and Madyson Fryar; one sister, Evangelist Gloria Breland, Walterboro, SC; three brothers, John Glover, NC; Ben Seabrook and Willie Seabrook both of Walterboro, SC; one step-brother, Jimmie Fields, St. George, SC; and one step-sister, Rose (Walter) Satchell, Columbia, SC ; sisters-in-law: Diane Glover; Ruffin, SC and Marie Smith; Bamberg, SC ; one aunt, Cornelia Martin, Walterboro, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; a special friend, Rosa Singleton.
