"I had fainted , unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord, be of good courage and he shall strengthen thine heart, wait I say, on the Lord." Psalms 27:13-14 For eighty six years, Mr. Isaiah Gant, Jr. believed that it was the goodness of God that assured and kept him each and everyday of his life. As the sun set on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2020; our dear Isaiah Gant, Jr. entered into the Glorious Light of Eternal Reward and is now Resting in the Arms of our Beautiful Savior Jesus Christ...in the Love and Peace of His Presence. Isaiah, lovingly known as “Ike” is the son of Isaiah Gant, Sr. and Mary Martha Ladson Gant who preceded him in eternal rest. He was born in Walterboro, S.C. on October 6, 1934 and was educated in the Colleton County Public School System. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age and became a part of the Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church family where he severed with his family. Many years later he joined Cypress Creek Christian Church.
On July 19, 1958 he united in marriage with Lillie Ree Doctor Gant in which they shared 62 blessed years of Holy Matrimony. Isaiah left home at an early age moving to Newark, NJ for
employment. After returning home, he worked for the SC Highway Department. After a brief tenure, he received an opportunity to work with Pepsi Cola Inc. where he formed a special lifetime friendship with the proprietor. He later accepted a position with Palmetto Rural Telephone Company where he served and retired after many years of service. Isaiah loved being outdoors, he enjoyed gardening, cutting the grass and taking care of his dogs. He was an avid fisherman and a skilled hunter. Over the years he supplied fresh meat of every kind for many delicious meals for his family. He and his wife enjoyed spending time fishing and crabbing together. Isaiah cherished his family dearly and had a special place in his heart for children. Children were drawn to and loved him just as much as he loved them. He constantly provided encouragement for them to do well. He served as a father figure in many of their lives. He took advantage of every opportunity to tell others how proud he was of his daughters, grands, nieces and nephews. He provided love and support with open arms sharing his heart and often times his home with family and friends. Isaiah liked making others laugh, telling funny jokes or sharing hilarious stories of his adventures in life. He never met a stranger and always had a kind word to say to anyone he met.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife of 62 years, Mrs. Lillie Ree Gant; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Thompson of Rose Hill, NC (Ron); a sister, Mrs. Margaret H. Richardson of Walterboro, SC (Bernard); four grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Isaiah’s daughter, Ms. Shirley Ferguson tenderly attended to him during his stay at Pruitt Health before preceding him in Eternal Reward in January of this year. His baby sister, Ms. Virginia E. Gant also went home to be with the Lord in May of this year. Isaiah’s beautiful granddaughter Ms. LaTonya Denise Geathers-Saunders journeyed before him to her Mansion in Glory in February of 2010.
As Koger's Mortuary Service is in charge of final arrangements, there will be a walk-thru visitation on Friday: December 4, 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the mortuary. A homegoing celebration will conclude on Saturday: December 5, 2020 @ twelve o' clock in the afternoon, in the Legacy Chapel of Koger's Mortuary. The interment will follow in the Cypress Creek Christian Church Cemetery of Walterboro, SC. (In an effort to reduce the spread of Covid-19 and in compliance with CDC guidelines; facial masks and social distancing practices will be enforced.)
