Even though we are broken and saddened with grief, we bow in humble submission to the will of our Father, and so it was that the Almighty saw fit to quietly take our beloved Charles home at 5:15 am on Thursday, May 11, 2023.
Charles Fishburne, Jr., son of the late Charles and Mamie Fishburne, was born on November 9, 1940, in Walterboro, SC. At an early age, he relocated to New York. Charles joined the Church of God in Christ of Bridgehampton, NY where he served faithfully and was a member of the Adult and Men’s choirs and on the Usher Board. In the early 1990s he relocated to North Carolina and continued to serve at the New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Shiloh, NC. Years later, Charles returned to Walterboro and joined Trinity AME Church of Round O, SC. In June 2022, as his health began to decline, he moved one final time to Alexandria, VA with his daughter until his death. Charles held long-time positions at Rowe Industries in Sag Harbor, NY; Southampton Hospital in Southampton, NY; Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, NY; and General Smalls Inn at Fort Eustis, VA. Charles was an inactive Mason.
Charles was preceded in death by wives, Carolyn “Doll Baby” Sawyer and Diana Jones. His memory will be forever cherished by his daughter, Kim Fishburne and son, Edward Fishburne (Osceola “Shea”); six grandsons, Antoni “Ty” Wyche (Jill), Eric Fishburne (Jordan), Kristopher Fishburne, Sincere Perez, Shaundell Fishburne and Justice Perez; two granddaughters, Ashley Birtcil (Clarence) and Deja Miller; three great-granddaughters, Taylor Williams and Keilah and Jaya Wyche; four great-grandsons, Allen Birtcil “AJ”, Chase Miller, Timothy Birtcil “TJ”, and Chandler Miller; great-great-granddaughter Amiri Grace Williams. His memories will also be cherished by his siblings, Elder Ernest Fishburne (Pat), Susie Doctor, Elder Eli Fishburne (Katie B) and Diane Delee along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to include Richard Oliver and Ronnie Sutton, as well as Herman Lee Davis, who preceded him in death.
There will be a viewing for Mr. Fishburne on Saturday, May 20, 2023; 10:00 AM until the hour of service. There will be NO VIEWING after the eulogy.
