Our dearly beloved, Mr. Benjamin E. Brooks transitioned from life on earth to life eternal on June 10, 2021 at his home in Walterboro SC. He was born December 17, 1932 in Wiggins SC to the late Benjamin Brooks, Sr and Effie L. Brooks. He graduated from Colleton Training High School in Walterboro South Carolina then drafted by the US Armed Forces and served in the Army in 1955 where he fought in the Korean War, and was stationed in Germany. In 1957 he attended Area Trade school in Denmark and was then united in Holy Matrimony to Eleanor Lewis Brooks. To this union four children were born. In 1958 he relocated his family to New York City where he stayed for 44 years. He worked at All State engineering batteries until he ventured out to start his own car service. Brooks has always had a strong liking for working on cars which he did for many years before returning back home to South Carolina where he became a Foster parent to provide young boys a better, stable life. He worked for several years at Hamilton's Funeral Home and most recently, Koger's Mortuary; where he spent countless hours building relationships, and impacting lives with his wisdom and unforgettable - contagious laughter. Whether at the mortuary, the gas station, Hardee’s or at their homes; he always had a joke or story to tell to make you laugh.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents are his son Daryl Brooks, two sisters Lelabelle (Wilbur) Jennings, and Ruthie (Norris) Rearden. Brother, Richard Brooks, three sister-in-law‘s, Bernice Wilson, Harriet McLymont, and Gloria black. Nephew Troy Lewis, son in law, Rev. James Riley, and daughter in law, Lilly Brooks.
Left to embrace fond memories of all the laughs and jokes told by Brooks are: Wife of 63 years Eleanor Lewis Brooks, son Chester Brooks Walterboro Sc, two daughters Sharondee Brooks NYC, and Marlo (Sean) Harris Atlanta Ga. Polly Ann Riley, Ernest Brooks, Prince (Yolanda) Smalls, Harry Dean Jones, sons Tyrus Veal and Dorico Walton, Deenie Wiggins, Joel Farmer, Terry Washington. Eleven grandchildren Olywaseyi Ayinde, Chastity Brooks, Taiwo Ayinde, Kehinde Ayinde, Madeline Brooks, and Noah Harris. James Riley, Jason Riley, DeQuanda Riley, Selentia Dent, Shadarus Brooks. Siblings, Dorothy (Robert) Ferette, Celia Tillman, Willie (Lillie) Brooks, Sisters-in-law, Katie Lewis and Brenda Lewis: along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
There will be a walk-thru visitation held on Wednesday: June 16, 2021; 4:00-6:00 P.M; at the mortuary. A final celebration of life will conclude on Thursday: June 17, 2021, @ 11:30 in the morning in the Legacy Chapel of Koger's Mortuary, Reverend Wayne G. Carter, Eulogist. Final rites and interment will immediately follow in the Hiott's Cemetery in Round O, SC.
