The Portrait of Her Life
Mother Vera Mae Redish Gant, daughter of the late, Mr. John and Mrs. Alvilla Redish; was born November 12, 1937, in Walterboro, South Carolina. Educated in the public schools of Colleton County, she was a graduate of the Ruffin High School class of 1954. As she became an adult, Mother Gant entered the workforce. She most recently was employed as a housekeeper.
Meeting the love of her life, Mother Gant was united in Holy Matrimony to the late, Mr. Joe Louis Gant. This union would be blessed with many years of love and devotion, until his passing; and five wonderful children.
At an early age, Mother Gant accepted the Lord as her Savior and became a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church of Williams, South Carolina. She remained faithful in her service to her church, until her health began to decline. She was a person of love and lived her life to the fullest. She possessed a love for her family, and it was demonstrated through all that she said and did. Her love was even more evident, as she spoiled her grands and great-grandchildren, to the max.
On Saturday, September 10, 2022; during the morning hours, our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend; laid her tired hands to rest, as she traded time for eternity. Preceding her in death along with her beloved husband and parents, are two children, Kelvin Gant and Harriet Gant.
Left on this side to embrace the portraits of her life are: her three children, Rodney (Aline) Gant, Veronica (Randy) Stevens, both of Williams, South Carolina, and Tyrone Gant of El Paso, Texas: two sisters, Caroline (Jeffrey) Meyers and Marie Rivers Bell, both of Walterboro, South Carolina; brother, Sam (Christine) Reddish of Walterboro, South Carolina: twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two god-daughters, Shena’ Stephens and Sa’Shay Haynes; along with a host numerous other relatives and friends.
