Mother Ethel Lisbon Obituary

Mrs. Ethel Mae Lisbon, 93, entered eternal peace on Saturday Oct 23, 2021 at her home in the Ritter Community of Walterboro, SC. Ethel was born to the late Mrs. Elise and Whitney “Whit” Jones. She attended and graduated from Colleton County High School. She attended trade school in Savannah, GA where she later worked as a medical supplier at the local Hospital. While delivering newspapers she met the love of her life, Mr. Leon Lisbon, Sr. Leon married his queen on July 25,1945. This beautiful union resulted in the birth of fifteen children.

While raising generations, Ethel was an devote member in the church as well as her community. Ethel worked on the Colleton County Election Committee where she was Primary Election Poll Master for many years. She also gave of her time to help operate the local food share program located in her community of Ritter, SC. Ethel was the proud bookkeeper for the softball and baseball teams comprised of her very own children and a few neighborhood kids. She was a member of Cumberland United Methodist Church where she worked with many ministries, including the Usher Board and The United Methodist Women’s Ministry. Ethel was also the Mother of the Church. A role she took pride in.  Also a woman of virtue and strong family value, Mother Lisbon was a mother figure to all of her nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by husband Leon Lisbon, SR. five sons: Marion Jerome Lisbon, Leon Lisbon, Jr., John Biggs, Joe Louis Magwood and Leroy Williams. Two daughters: Baby Girl. And Alice (Franklin) White. Five sisters, Edith (Jack), Anna (Phillip), Gladys (Fellie) Ora Lee (Jonas), and Cleo (Walter). Six brothers Frasier (Ora Bell) Turner (Retha) Raleigh (Vernell) Hervis (Rose) Joe Louis (Millie) and William (Lisabeth).

She leaves cherish her precious memories and legacy to Robert, Lee, Concetta Karen (William) Washington, Norvell (Judy) Carolyn (James) Jacqueline, Gerald (Carolyn) Jacob (Cynthia) Regina (Willie) Marcela (Verdell) Mitchell, Michael (Hilda) Peter (Gladys) Marylee Ross, Debra Singleton, Melanie Biggs, William (Sarah) Singleton, and Robert (Quetta) Townsend. One Son-in-Law Franklin White, and three daughters-in-law: Thelma Maywood, Sarah (Robert) Johnson and Eliza Lisbon. One sister, Ruth Ella Siders. One brother, George (Ida) Williams One brother-in-law Jacob Lisbon and one sister-in-law Geneva Heyliger. eighty-six grandkids, 135 great grandkids, twelve great, great-grandkids, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

As the service arrangements have been updated below; please let us pray much with and for this family during this time as they continue to celebrate the wonderful legacy of the life of Mother Ethel Mae Lisbon. As we are in preparation of the final farewell services, please note: a facial covering will be required prior to entering all facilities.
