Mother Essie Brown Obituary

"Though he slay me, yet will I trust Him; after all that I've been thru, I still have joy!" Mother Essie Lee Brown life was a testimony of those exact words. Essie Lee Campbell Brown was born to the late Laurie Campbell Sr. and Florence Campbell on June 17, 1922. God called her home to eternal rest on August 4, 2020 at her residence in Cottageville, South Carolina. Sister Essie Lee was a reverent woman who loved the lord. A very independent person who performed many task in the church, a Sunday school superintendent, teacher, vacation bible school assistant, a very strong advocate for the word of God. Sister Essie Lee graced us with her God given voice as she sung the songs of Zion, in the Gospel choir, senior choir and echoes of heritage. She also was the mother to many in the community. Essie Lee Brown was a member of Haven Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Manteo, North Carolina. She later renewed her membership at
Macedonia United Methodist Church.

She received her education in the Colleton County School District. After high school she relocated to Manteo, South Carolina. She was employed with Goldie Meekins on the Outer Banks of North Carolina for numerous years. She was also employed with Urban Bateman until her retirement. Essie Lee was joined in holy matrimony to the late Keller Brown in the 1940s. Essie Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Florence and Laurie Campbell, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memories (4) Sisters, Lillie Washington & Sarah Gilmore both of Cottageville, SC, Rebecca Heyward of Redcliff, Kentucky, Amy Gamble (Frank) of Philadelphia, PA, AND (1) Brother Matthew Campbell of Cottageville, SC, Special Nephew Earnest (Joyce) Campbell in Manteo, NC, And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives & friends.

On behalf of this family, they graciously express their sincere gratitude and appreciation for all acts of kindness that have been and will continue to be shown to them during their time of bereavement and celebration.
