"The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want." Psalm 23:1
On Monday, July 24, 1933, Queenie Victoria Shider announced the birth of a beautiful baby girl, Betty Claire Shider, who was destined to a life of service to God and mankind. Her journey ended, Sunday, November 20, 2022, while surrounded by her family.
EDUCATION
Betty was a 1952 graduate of Colleton Training School, where she was an excellent student and an outstanding basketball player.
LIFE AND SERVICE TO GOD AND COMMUNITY
With her many names-Momma, Bett, Betty Claire, Grandma, Granny, and Auntie-Betty was described as an amazing Mother, an indescribable Grandmother and Aunt, and an exceptional Friend who captured the hearts of others through her many acts of kindness, love and humor. She was a classy dresser with everything coordinated from hat to shoes. She was an avid watcher of the Local and National News as well as the Sports channel. (GO BRAVES!). The family’s saying was “If you need information, just call Betty Claire.” Betty was a great supporter and advocate for Education, Sunday School, Youth programs such as the church sponsored Summer Camps, Community Sports programs and Community and Church events. She was a “Master Chef” whose food delighted the taste buds of all ages! You were guaranteed a meal if you visited her, no matter the day or time. Sis. Shider joined St. John AME church at an early age. She served as President of the Usher Board, a member of the Stewardess Board and a frequent church school attendee. Sis. Shider knew she was blessed by God and enjoyed telling you about Him and His goodness. She will be greatly missed. Betty was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry Lewis, David Carl (DC), and George, and two sisters, Rosa Lee and Bessie.
