Mother Aruth Belton Obituary

"As I look back over my life and I think things over, I can truly say, that I've been blessed, and I've got a testimony. Sometimes I couldn't see my way thru; but the Lord, He brought me out; right now I'm free I've got the victory, and I've got a testimony."  As we meditate on the lyrics to this song of praise, we meditate also on the legacy of the life of Mother Aruth Belton, as she lived 90 plus years on this Earth.  A longtime resident Walterboro,SC crossed over Jordan on the  30th of November 2020 at the North Chase Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Wilmington, NC  after a courageous year-long Crusade against dementia and other health problems.

Aruth, daughter of John Wesley and Chelsea Givens Breland, was born in Bells, SC on  October 10th 1930. Aruth is survived by her husband of 65 years Reverend Samuel Lee Belton, USMC, Walterboro, SC, daughter Carolyn and son-in-law Willie Kalaski, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; son Samuel Jerome Belton and daughter-in-law Jackie, Castle Hayne, NC; sisters Bessie Hamby, Portsmouth VA; Heartha Ferguson of Philadelphia, PA; daughter-in-law, Deanna Gibson, Columbus OH; and grandchildren Megee Broughton, Walterboro, SC; Vanessa Grant, Varnville, SC; Tia Harris, Delray Beach, FL; Brandon Kalaskie, Colorado Springs, CO; Christin Breed, Dallas, TX; Juston, Tyrone, Daniel, Joshua Belton,  Wilmington, NC; and numerous completely and deeply-loved great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and many, many relatives and in-laws and friends.

She is also survived by siblings from her father’s second marriage, brothers, Leroy, NYC, Herman Lamont, Atlanta, GA, Jo Willie, Atlanta, GA; Melvin Alford, Ruffin, SC; Evan Jerald Willard, Walterboro, SC; and sisters Lorraine Marie, NYC, Ann, Walterboro, SC; Pollie Mae Bellinger, Walterboro, SC, Clara Agnes, Springtown, SC; Barbara Lynn, Islandton, SC and Maridold, Charleston, SC.  Sadly, she was preceded in her passing by daughters, Karen and Venetha, by son, Willie, brother Carl, sisters Ivory Robinson Memminger, Ozzie Tracy Gully, and Helen Clayton and brothers John Edward, Favor, Rogers James and Larry Donnell.

“Ma” as she was known by her children, adored the Lord beyond words.

She also loved gardening, to hold yard sales and was the unquestionable authority with a worm, bobber and cane pole in her hands.  No bass or bluegill was safe when she was on the bank of any pond and we don’t know of anyone in the “Low Country” who could out fish her!

As Koger's Mortuary is in charge of the final arrangements; in honor of the wishes of the dearly departed, there will be no visitation. Graveside Services, honoring her life, will conclude on Saturday: December 5, 2020; Two O' Clock in the afternoon in the Belton Cemetery of Ruffin, SC. Apostle Kenneth Broughton will be the eulogist.  Services will be live streamed, depending upon connectivity.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, interment will take place immediately after the service.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider donations to Aruth’s favorite charity “Abundant Giving”.  Donations can be sent to “Abundant Giving” 509 Millhouse Rd. Castle Hayne, NC 28429
