Mother Lela Belle (McPherson) Barnett

Mother Lela Belle McPherson Barnett, was born on May 21, 1924 in Green Pond, SC to the late Vilo Washington and Harry McPherson. On Wednesday, October 26, 2022, our almighty God in his infinite wisdom sent his angels to personally escort our beloved Lela Belle home to rest.

Lela received her formal education in the public school system of South Carolina. At a young age she moved to Philadelphia, PA, where she gained employment with Philadelphia Electric Company until her retirement. She met and married King David Barnett.

Mother Barnett was a very spiritual and Godfearing woman who loved church. She was a faithful member of Joshua AME Church of Green Pond, SC and Greater Mt. Olive AME Church of Philadelphia, PA. She enjoyed baking pound cakes, friendship cakes, and pies. A few of her favorite hobbies were knitting, pottery, and making ceramic sculptures. Lela enjoyed raising her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed as she was loved and admired by many. Lela lived ninety-eight beautiful years, and we are truly blessed to have been a part of her journey. She will forever be in our hearts as she will live through us all until we meet again.

Preceding her in death along with her parents, are husband, King David Barnett; son Harry Anthony McPherson, and granddaughter Iesha Shervey Willis.

Left to cherish her loving memories are children, Pearl McPherson, Herbert (Antoinette) Brooks, Christine Dent , Rose Marie McPherson, and Michael Washington; grandchildren, Denia Fisher, Derrick Brooks, Dana Brooks, Tosha Brooks, Brandy Washington, Michael Washington, Shavon Washington, Robert Washington, Lamar McPherson, Leonard McPherson, Stefone Purdie, Angelo Washington, Ikia Brown, Demetria Brown, Dujuan Williams McPherson, Anthony (ShaQuetta) McPherson, Robert McPherson, Vincent McPherson Harrison, and Devon McPherson; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
