In humble submission we announce the passing of Ms. Malvenia Virginia Hamilton. Ms. Hamilton, 81, of Cottageville, South Carolina, affectionately known as "Mellie" traded time for eternity on December 1, 2022. Her life living was a testament of grace, and she will be forever missed by those who will ways cherish her memory. The family will be receiving guest at the home, 137 Hamwalk Lane, Cottageville, SC, Beginning Wednesday December 6, 2022.
The Family Hour: Friday December 9, 2022 3-5 PM. (This event is limited to Immediate and Extended FAMILY MEMBERS only.)
The Public Memorial Celebration: Saturday December 10, 2022, 11AM in the Legacy Chapel of Koger's Mortuary.
*Private Interment to follow Celebration of Life Services - The Repast will be held immediately following services at the family home*
Ms. Malvenia Hamilton aka “Mellie” or “Mal”, was the third child of seven children. She was born on May 10, 1941 to the late Janie Rhodes North and Robert Hamilton in Cottageville, SC. She was educated in the public schools of Colleton County where she graduated from Colleton High School class of 1959.
Upon graduating from high school, Mellie relocated to New York where she became one of the first black women in Queens, NY to work as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office. She worked for USPS until she decided to retire after injury. To know Mellie was to love her. She had a contagious personality which left such a lasting impression on everyone who engaged with her. Mellie loved to cook and was in love with gardening. At any time you could find her in her yard planting or repotting her flowers. Mellie loved to travel and was a very devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was an active member of the Red Had Society.
Mellie departed this earthly life on Thursday, December 1st while at home doing what she loved to do which was gardening. She is also preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Lingard and Mary North.
Left to cherish the essence of her life are her three children; Yzette Pinckney, Yalanda Pinckney-Spence, and Rachen Pinckney; six grandchildren, Londell Pinckney, Anthony Crimely, Jr., Zakiyaa Spence, Rachen Pinckney, Jr., RaeVonte Pinckney and Jaden Pinckney; and four great-grandchildren, Ava Pinckney, Eleanor Pinckney, Rachen Pinckney III and Cardiar Amir Pinckney; four siblings, Geneva Taylor, Joe Nathan North, James “JW” North and Carrie Robinson along with a host of other relatives and friends.
