Louise Smith Obituary

Ms. Louise Smith transitioned from this earthly life on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Born on March 30, 1945, in the White Hall community of Yemassee, South Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of the late Mr. Willie and Mrs. Emily Smith.

Louise was educated in the local public school system and was a proud graduate of Colleton High School. Following graduation, she relocated to New York to build her future. Louise dedicated over 43 years of service to the United States Department of Labor in New York City, retiring as a highly respected and admired Audit Technician.

A woman of high style, class, and sophistication, Louise was known for her immense generosity. She was a faithful member of The Brooklyn Tabernacle, where she found great spiritual community. Affectionately known as "Wheezy," she possessed a kind soul and a listening ear, always eager to share her wisdom to help others on their journeys. Her legacy of love, faith, and grace will continue to inspire those who knew her for years to come.

Louise was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Coaxum Jr., and her siblings: Mary Green, James Green, Mackie Green, Lillery Smith, and Carol Smith.

Left to cherish her memory are her four sisters: Anna Huggins of Yemassee, SC; Willie Mae Morgan of Akron, OH; Florrie Elliot of Bronx, NY; and Susie Kinnery of Jersey City, NJ. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Margaret Green of Green Pond, SC; devoted friend Jennifer Roberts; godchildren Laquanda Toussaint and Dontae Toussaint; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family extends special appreciation to her nieces - Tiffany Kinnery and Cynthia Huggins for their dedicated assistance with funeral arrangements.
