Mrs. Janie Mae Tillman Fields was born on September 13,1947, in Cheraw, South Carolina to the late John H. Tillman Sr. and Anna Peguese Tillman. She was the third of six children born to this union.
Janie M. Fields married the late Sandy Fields Sr., and to this union one son was born, Sandy Jr. She was educated in Chesterfield County School District "Cheraw Long High" and collegiately in Denmark, South Carolina. She worked for Colleton County Title One Division "Classroom on Wheels" for twenty-nine years before retiring, because of her declining health. The Federal funded program was honored Nationally for their service in 1991 during a Las Vegas award banquet ceremony. She continued her service with the community's youth as a mentor.
She served faithfully as a member and officer for Mt. Zion A.M.E Church before stepping down from all positions, because of a decline in her health. She was a Steward and a member of Steward Board #2, a member of the gospel choir, Class leader for Board #20 and a passionate fundraiser. In 2016, she was appointed to Emeritus status by the powers that be of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
The following siblings and family members preceded her into eternal rest, Wincy Drakeford of Brooklyn, NY, Daisy L. Tillman of Paterson, NJ, John H. Tillman Jr. of Upper Marlboro, MD, Retired Army Sergeant Samuel Tillman of Oklahoma, Anna Pearl Bowman of Cheraw, SC and nephews: John G. Tillman of Paterson, NJ, Dennis Sanders of Walterboro, SC and Torrey A. Tillman Sr. of Upper Marlboro, MD.
She is survived by a son, Sandy Fields Jr.; Sister-in-laws; Ruth Sanders of Walterboro, SC, Carolyn Tillman of Florence, SC, Anne Fields of Walterboro, SC and Emma Holmes (Sherman) of Cottageville, SC along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
