Janice Yvette Chisolm Wright, affectionately known as Jitterbug, was born on September 26, 1964, in Walterboro, SC to the late James Chisolm, Sr. and Annie Mae Smalls Chisolm. She departed this life at her residence on January 26, 2026.
Janice graduated from Walterboro High School Class of 1982. Upon graduation, she furthered her education by attending Voorhees College where she graduated in 1986. After graduation, she joined the Colleton County School District, where she dedicated 30 years of service before retiring. After retiring, Janice returned to Colleton County School District as a substitute through Kelly Services and continued this work until she departed. One of her most rewarding jobs was serving as the Head Coach of Colleton Middle School girls’ softball team. Janice was also employed for 9 years with Colleton County Board of Disabilities.
Janice served for many years as a board member for Colleton County Recreation Committee. She also served as a board member for Pillars for Hope. Janice spent countless hours playing travel ball with teams across the state. She later served as the President of Wesley Grove Tigerettes and became the proud owner of The Grove at 428 LLC. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Pride of Walterboro Chapter 189.
At an early age, Janice joined Mt. Zion AME Church where she remained an active member. She served faithfully on various boards (Steward Board, Stewardess Board, Usher Board and the Hospitality committee) and organizations throughout the years.
On December 5, 1998, Janice married Quinton Wright and to this union two children were born: Austin and Evan Wright.
In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her brothers Dan Sanders, Samuel Sanders, James Chisolm, Jr. and Elgin Chisolm.
Left to mourn and cherish her memories is her loving and devoted husband Quinton Wright. Her children, Quinton Wright (Eugenia), Demetrius (Kitera), Austin and Evan Wright; 13 grandchildren, JaNaerius, Demetrius, Demir, Ja Nauri, Demauna, Jeremiah, Deryn, Braxton, Jenera, Emonie, Quinton Jr, Kaydee and Malachi (of the home); a brother, Michael Chisolm (Betty); a special bonus sister, Tamara Chisolm; sister-in-law, Albrenda Mitchell; brother-in-laws, Jonathan (Deagra), Joel (Sonya), Lewis (Thomasina), Sherman, Wilbur and Billy Wright; Aunt, Lula Smalls.
Special nieces, nephews and members of The Grove at 428; Quincy Chisolm, Tavara (Tootie) Edwards, Ta’Shauna Chisolm, Briana Chisolm, Tia Chisolm, Makayla Chisolm, Montavia Berry, Destiny Dobison, Keisha Williams, Taylor Williams, Tamya Williams, Julius Millen, Deryl Frasier, Carlos Holmes, Troy Simmons, Michael Brown, CJ Holmes, Shyheim Chisolm, Shyanne Chisolm, Shykeim Chisolm, Shamorie Overton, Genelle Harrison, Kyla Harrison, Kalani Harrison, Chalamar Brown, Trey Simmons and Tyrell Williams. One Godson, Adrian Chisolm and her loving Godmother, Brenda Nixon.
