James Ashley Givens affectionately known as “Pig” and “Chicken Hawk’ was born on October 29, 1955, to Litterrea (Angeline) Givens and the late James Givens. He was raised in the Red Rood section of Ruffin.
He obtained his education at Bells Elementary and Ruffin High School, where he played football and graduated in 1973. James worked for SCDOT for more than 30 years as a truck driver. He spent his spare time fishing, watching wrestling and sitting at Sniders Crossroads. He was a longtime member of New Bethel #5 Pentecostal Holiness Church.
James was preceded in death by father, James Givens; four sisters, Crystal L. Givens, Melinda Badger, Gloria Brown and Robin Givens and one brother, Billy Givens.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Mary Givens; three children, Lashonda Wylder (Charles), Ashley Haynes (Tito) and Travis Givens; one step daughter, Wilhemenia Anderson; mother, Litterrea (Angeline) Givens; four sisters, Daphne Givens, Sirena McClary, Colisa Givens and Judy Hodges; one brother, James Russell, Jr; seven grandchildren, Jamel Wiggins, KeyShawn Witherspoon, De’Angelo Haynes, De’Ondre Haynes, Jaylen Haynes, Londyn Haynes and JaQuan Haynes; two great grandchildren as well as a host of family and friends.
