Mrs. Ida Ruth Murray, born to the late Mr. Adell Stephens and Mrs. Marie Stephens on April 17, 1958, in Ruffin, South Carolina, took her eternal rest on June 7, 2024, at Emory Decatur Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Ida received her education in Colleton County’s public schools and dedicated 27 years of service to the Colleton County Schools until her retirement at sixty-six.
Deeply rooted in her faith, Ida joined Sykes Savannah United Methodist Church at an early age and later became an active member of Cumberland United Methodist Church, where she served diligently as an usher.
In 1975, Ida married the late Mr. Henry Lee Murray, and their loving union of over forty-eight years was blessed with four children. Known for her warm, contagious smile and ever-helpful nature, Ida never complained and was adored as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She relished laughter, telling jokes, attending church, and visiting Walterboro with her family.
Preceding her in death along with her beloved parents, is one son, Eric Murray: one brother, three sisters; and three brothers-in law.
She leaves behind a cherished legacy through her two daughters, Marilyn (Lord) Coker and Henrietta (Stannard) Duncombe, both of Covington, GA; her son Daric (Ashley) Murray of Colorado Springs, CO; three sisters, Annette (Dennis) Bodison, Evangelist Teresa (Adam) Stephens, and Mary Stephens, all of Walterboro, SC; five sisters-in-law, Pearl Williams of Yemassee, SC, Ellaree Murray, Martha Whitlock, and Regina Mitchell, all of Walterboro, South Carolina, Mary (Calvin) Johnson of Pinewood, S.C; three brothers-in-law, James (Annette) Murray and Edward (Vivian) Murray of Columbia, SC, and Randolph Murray of Walterboro, SC; a granddaughter raised in her home, Shambria Murray; eight grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever honor her memory.
